With the end of the year rapidly approaching, it's time to start thinking about curriculum for next year. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions about what curricula are right for you and your student. When looking for curriculum, be sure to evaluate whether or not the program will help your student dig deeper into concepts to ensure student mastery of standards and to enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills. Our goal is that every student be career and college ready.

Online CAI Programs
Did you know that by having your student login to use Let's Go Learn reading and math, iReady reading and math, or Ascend Math daily for a total of 30 hours per subject, your student can make up to a year's worth of academic progress by finding and fixing skills gaps? Wow! What an excellent opportunity for growth! If you would like additional support on your student's Computer Aided Instructional (CAI) program, I can provide additional clarity and/or assistance for the programs mentioned above as well as Study Island, Moby Max, or Education Galaxy. Let's make sure your student is using their program to the max and getting the absolute most of every minute spent! March Moby Max Contest
Help get your student prepared for CAASPP testing! Login to Moby Max today and start working on this month's contest! Be sure to let your ES know the time your student has spent in the program so they can provide virtual raffle tickets to the Grasp the CAASPP contest as well! CWCS GEAS/EVENTS
Washington, D.C. Trip
Would you like to send your student on the trip of a lifetime? I will be leading a group of students to Washington, D.C. during next year's spring break! This trip is open to all students of Connecting Waters Charter Schools. Students in grades 7-12 may travel on their own, and students grade 6 and below must travel with a parent or a chaperone. Dodge Ridge Ski Trip March 15
We hope to see you there, for all of those that submitted paperwork. This is a very fun learning experience for our students and a great way to get out and exercise in the fresh mountain air. OUTDOOR SCIENCE CAMP
In January, 38 5th and 6th grade CWCS students attended Mount Hermon Outdoor Science School in the mountains above Santa Cruz. They were supervised by a CWCS ES and 9 CWCS High School counselors, as well as Naturalists and Mount Hermon staff. 24 students paid extra to do a tree climbing option. The weather was mostly dry, and we had a great time on day and night hikes, playing games, swimming in the heated pools, attending campfire with skits and s'mores, and learning about nature. We will be attending again next year in late January. Starting in the fall, details will appear in CWCS Newsletters and listserve emails.
YEARBOOK NEWS
The time is here to submit your photos for yearbook. Yearbook team is waiting to finish up and finalize this year's book and we don't want anyone left out! You should have your personal TreeRing account by now, but if you do not, just go to the front page of the school website and look on the right-hand side for the link to sign up! www.cwcharter.org It's so easy and fun to submit photos. It is FREE to sign up for an account, but remember to make sure the photos have the student's name included on the tag so we know who it is!
Your students have access to their own personal pages in their own personal yearbook when they purchase. This is extra fun because you can work together creating your personal pages that are all about your student. Let the creative side of homeschooling take the lead!

11th grade students…UC Eligibility in the Local Context Program
Connecting Waters participates in University of California's Eligibility in the Local Context program for 11th grade students. To find out if your student will qualify for participation, see UC ELC Information. Students with an academically rigorous course load will be considered; criteria for consideration include: a-g course pattern completion (11 a-g courses completed by end of Junior year), a combination of Community College and a-g courses; 11th graders who have general courses but have completed at least geometry will be considered; students with above average SAT and/or ACT scores will be considered (latest exam date for Juniors to be considered is SAT-May, ACT-April, and CW students must use CW School Code 053706 when registering, CWEB students must use the CWEB School Code 050352 when registering ). For CWEB students, our plan is to register CWEB for this program after we become WASC accredited and have a full list of UC approved a-g courses. The goal is to begin with the CWEB Class of 2020.

How can a student earn a 4.25 GPA? Here's an explanation of our "weighted GPA" policy
Students who take UC Approved Advanced Placement (AP) courses or UC transferable courses (that meet a-g requirements) at Community College will earn "Honors" credit on their GPA. Grades earned in AP courses or UC approved Community College courses will earn 5.00 GPA points for an A, 4.00 GPA points for a B, and a 3.00 GPA points for a C (D's and F's do not qualify for "Honors" credit). Connecting Waters offers AP English Language/Composition and AP English Literature/Composition. Fire drills at CWCS Sites!
Connecting Waters Charter Schools will be having monthly fire drills starting on March 8 thru the end of the school year at each resource centers, annex, and the school office. This is required by the Fire Marshal.
Any person who is at any of these locations will be participating in the fire drill. Everyone will be advised to go outside of the building to a designated area when the fire alarm sounds.
Once the drill is completed, we will re-enter the building and resume the regular schedule.
These drills will occur monthly at various days and times. Please inform your students.
