California Science Test (CAST)

The California Science Test (CAST) is an online assessment based on the California Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). All schools with eligible students in grades five (5), eight (8) and eleven (11) are required to complete the CAST.

Since all students must complete the test at least once in high school, the state allows schools to determine what grade students will complete their science course sequence. Connecting Waters Charter Schools will have all Grade 11 students complete the CAST unless they request an additional year to complete their course sequence, or unless they have already completed it with a previous school. Any 11th grade student requesting another year to prepare for the CAST may request to have a postponement approved. Students must be enrolled in a science course their 12th grade year to request an approved postponement. Postponements should be used sparingly and ESs should discuss requesting an approved postponement with their advisor before requesting one.

Any grade 12 student who has not yet completed the CAST will be required to complete the assessment in the spring testing window.
