Effective 2016-17, California is in full implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards. The "big shifts" in these new standards focuses on more hands-on, problem solving, engineering, and scientific approach throughout the science disciplines. We recommend everyone watch the Paul Andersen video series on the Next Generation Science Standards (watch them with your students if you want to trigger some great discussions about how you're doing science at home, and how you can get your student more involved).
