EL Department Goals

English Learner Department Goals for 2016-2017

  • Ensure that English learners acquire full proficiency in English as rapidly and effectively as possible and attain parity with native speakers of English.
  • Ensure that English learners, within a reasonable period of time, achieve the same rigorous grade-level academic standards that are expected of all students.
  • Ensure the percentage of English Learners learning English will increase by 1.5%, in order to move toward state defined growth expectations as measured by CELDT.
  • Our team will improve and increase parent outreach strategies so that 50% of parents are active participants in the education of their children.
  • Ensure the percentage of English Learners in language instruction educational programs fewer than 5 years attaining English language proficiency will increase 1.5% in order to move toward state-defined expectations for meeting the CELDT criterion for English-language proficiency.
  • Ensure the percentage of teachers/administrators that will participate in professional development focused on standards aligned instruction and the implementation of the ELD standards in tandem with the California Common Core State Standards for ELA/Math, while using effective instructional strategies will increase from 0% to 100% as measured by locally developed observations
  • Ensure supplemental instructional opportunities will be provided to 100% of immigrant students and their families by Connecting Waters.
  • Ensure the percentage of teachers teaching Reading/Language Arts of English learners implementing the ELD Standards in tandem with the Common Core Standards will increase from 0% to 35% as measured by locally developed observation tools.
  • Ensure the percentage of teachers teaching Mathematics of English Learners implementing the ELD standards in tandem with the California Common Core Standards will increase from 0% to 35% as measured by locally developed observation tools.
  • Our team will provide 100% of parents of ELs with the following information:
  • Identification as EL
  • Program placement options and notification
  • English language proficiency level, as determined by CELDT results and any local English Proficiency assessment used
  • Academic achievement level and Resignation information
  • At the high school level, graduation requirements and annual notification of their student progress toward meeting those requirements
