Meeting Agenda for September 28, 2004
What 3 improvements should we make in this area?
1.) Labs 2.) Kits 3.) Textbooks
How could we accomplish this task?
LABS:
*Utilize parent involvement with teaching
*Sat. Labs at Waterford High School for different levels (or Traveling Labs)
*Dan Wyrick (vendor in Lodi)
*Web links on site to virtual Labs online
KITS:
*Create grade level suggested science experiments that correlate with standards
and/ or texts (kits should include manuals)
*Use kits created by Science in a Nutshell
*Create these kits for reusable purposes and checkout at school sites
TEXTBOOKS:
*Have suggested text titles for each grade level/ ability level with a complete
description of materials needed for the course (revisit what was started this
summer and make it more users friendly)
*Correlate the KITS with the texts
Who should accomplish this task?
ES‚s knowledgeable in the area of Science. Host Curriculum Development
In-services offered to ES‚s for Professional Growth hours. Offer a stipend
to an ES who is willing to take a look at the texts and put together packets
for suggested use.
When is a reasonable timeline to have this task accomplished?
This task should be reasonably finished in a one year period to be ready for
benchmarks. During the first semester provide a stipend to an ES so that by second
semester kits can be made to match texts.
Or
Have ES‚s send suggestions in Early Fall with the names of certain texts/materials
they like and what grade level they go with. Have one ES or a Science committee
take a look at the information and chart it out. This information can be finalized
into lists. In Spring look at texts and find experiments and manuals to go with
them.
