Suggested Structure of Second Focus/Home Group Meeting

Please bring samples of your own studentsÕ work in the area of critical need suggested by your Focus/Home Group leader. If possible, bring samples of students working at or above grade level to balance the ones already gathered.

Introductions welcome newcomers, Parents, Students

TodayÕs Tasks from task 4 and task 5

         1. Re-examine the profile data (see links below) and the identified critical academic          needs. What are the most important expected school wide learning results for all          students based upon the student/community profile data?

         2. Select the expected school wide learning results that correlate with the critical          academic needs.

         3. Gather and analyze student work and other evidence to evaluate achievement of          the selected expected school wide learning results and targeted academic standards.

Discussion: How are the students doing in the area of critical need your group is reviewing? What evidence do we need to look at to determine how they are doing?

We identified that these ESLRÕs need work:

         Effective Communicators

         Mathematical Thinkers

They looked at samples of Math and English work and assessed with rubric.

Comments:

1)    One test per year is not an adequate representation of students work.

2)    It would be good for ES to come up with plan of action for improvement for each student.

3)    We need to look at special accomplishments (not just everyday work and testing).

4)    Helpful if ES takes sample of English monthly; possibly can access several times a year.

5)         It would be good for ESÕ to sit with parents and go over plan of action to guide                    parents in grade level curriculum.
