The mountain group did their ES meeting/Focus group meeting today - Tuesday.
As the secretary, I am e-mailing you our material that we developed.
The mountain group met on 2-23-04, Monday. Secretary: Joanne Gregg
We discussed:
1.Experiences we had getting accredited at other schools in different districts.
2.We then began to break up into groups and 'brainstorm' ideas for our assigned
WASC criteria.
3.Many innovative ideas came to the surface regarding our area of discussion --
C: Support for Student Personal and Academic Growth.
Our group joined point #8: All students receive appropriate support to help
ensure academic success, and point #9: Students have access to a system of
personal support services, activities and opportunities at the school and within
the community, together.
This created an all encompassing list of areas for consideration.
1.Individualized instruction
2.AESS services ö consisting of a weekly meeting with a credentialed teacher
familiar with their needs.
3.PLS Learning Styles Assessment web source
4.Educational web sites
5.Access to Edusoft tests, and standards
6.One on one tutoring as required
7.Special Education services
8.A wide variety of curriculum choices tailored to their individual abilities,
needs, and state standards
9.Star test scores and on the spot evaluation of basic abilities by use of the
WRAT test
thereby enabling curriculum to be selected specific to the child's needs and
abilities
10. Distance learning, videos, computers, tapes, and Cds
11. Parent website and support
12. Parent listserve
13. School newsletter
14. A wide range of service and product vendors, enabling the parent to meet
the individual needs of the student.
15. Group Educational activities
16. Contract Program Activities
17. Learning Center classes
18. Community college classes
19. Parent networking
20. Parent advisory board
21. Parent Education
22. Guidance counselor
23. Internet Service Provider available to families
24. Unit studies option
25. Learning center to give our school a ãbrick and mortarä feel
26. Generous Instructional funding and freedom of choice by the family
After compiling these numerous concepts about our school, we then embarked on
ideas on how to gather data to help us examine our school with respect to these
criteria statements. We all concluded that the best way to establish data
that can be analyzed would be to develop an ES survey that encouraged each ES to
consider the criteria with respect to each of their students. Useful data would
include:
1.Number of students receiving report cards ö giving a measurable way to
evaluate student progress
2.Number of students attempting and passing the CAHSEE test
3.Number of students attempting and their respective scores on the STAR test
4.Number of students taking advantage of a variety of vendors
5.Number of students participating in various classes offered at the Learning
Centers
6.Number of students using tutoring for special needs
7.Number of students using Contract Program Activities
8.Number of students using the AESS provision
9.Number of students using the GEA provision
10. Number of families and students willing to support the Learning center sites
11. The amount of support families/students voluntarily donated to support the
Learning Center sites
12. Number of students/families participating in the Listserve
13. Number of students participating in home study groups
14. Number of students participating in home play groups
15. Number of students signed up for Edusoft
16. The percent of Instructional Funding that is used for core subjects ö
reading, math, history, and science
17. Number of students that re-enroll for the next school year
18. Actual number of students that graduate from 12th grade (or 11th grade)
19. Number of students that continue on to higher education
20. Number of students that continue on to vocational training
21. The amount of longevity of students in our school, i.e. More that one year
22. The number of students that come to our school as a 'last chance' and graduate
Our group determined that the home groups could, at their meeting, develop
questions for the survey to measure the above data. We also determined that the
survey could be distributed to each ES through:
1. An All ES e-mail, or
2. A link on an ES meeting agenda
We also determined that each ES would review his current student list and fill
in the survey, one per each student, where the criteria and data applies.
We also determined that the survery should be of a format that requires
filling in bubbles, with no additional writing.
