Three task groups were present in one large forum, each with the “assessment” focus.

After examining the ESLR’s, CST and CAHSEE data, this group determined that our school should focus on Algebra (improving our mathematical thinkers) and English (developing effective communicators), specifically composition. The following ideas were offered in those areas:
Algebra-

*Offer more class opportunities for this course
*Offer a middle school pre- algebra class
*Expand the class locations (Waterford seems too far for families north of Modesto)
*Offer evening classes
*Recruit more upper level math tutors
*Utilization of Riverdeep- Destination Math Series
*Utilization of DIVE instructional CD’s (Correlated with Saxon)

English Composition- ( to raise essay scores)

*Explore/utilize online writing courses e.g. writeguide.com
*Explore/utilize programs such as IEW

It was discussed that parents have a particularly difficult time teaching middle and high school writing. Therefore, informing our ES’s of these outstanding and affordable programs is one way to help these resources get in the hands of parents and students.

Positive WASC Feedback-

ES’s noted that CWCS is going about the whole process very well- sequentially and logically.
ES’s asked for and received clarification about the benchmark test creation meetings Sherry is doing. Most thought this was a good idea.
