Focus Group Meeting Minutes

Review of last meetin's minutes
Review of WASC/CDE Focus on Learning School wide Criteria
Review of the ESLRs

ESLR 1- How do we define "speaking clearly and listen actively." And what is this doing in No. 1

ESLR 2- Contribute to society "Does this include classes outside the home (i.e. Karate, group painting)? If they are involved in the community does this include being actively involved at home and with family, primarily the younger children. Are CWCS families contributing to society by home schooling (Create charter school, employee Education Specialists, they pay mortgages, etc.)
Need to add to ESLR 2- "Participates in physical activities."

ESLR 3 Need to emphasize the learning of practical computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) CTAP is an alternative. Can parents challenge computer history classes not being acceptable as computer skills classes?

ESLRs 4-7 No comments

Question: Do we apply ESLRs to Curriculum and Instruction or vice versa.

Edusoft- 4 benchmark tests for each grade level for math and English are in the process of being made available. Each test emphasizes a different set of state standards. This is voluntary for parents (with a focus on key standards.)

CAHSEE Test results were reviewed. Writing and math are weak points.

There is a Web site for CWCS accreditation. We need to make parents and ES's aware of it.

The VAPA requirements- How are they going to be fulfilled?
Subject specific links on the Web site for resources to fulfill VAPA requirements.

Have a great day!
