The Elk Grove group responded to the WASC Committee suggestions in the
following ways:
A. "That the administration work with the staff to create a systematic objective
assessment designed to measure individual student growth." We
feel
this is being addressed through the CWCS Benchmark Exams.
B. "That the administration develops strategies for bringing the parent
community together for purposes of improving communication." Again, we
feel this is being addressed through the parent list serve, the newsletter,
the monthly
curriculum training, the school website, etc.
C."That the administration work to increase the number of learning centers
and expand the available course offerings at the centers."
Suggestions:
1. Classes could be offered at local libraries or community centers in the Mountain area, Bay Area, & Northern San Joaquin County.
2. Parent surveys for course offerings at sites.
3. Drop-in hours for math tutoring at the sites done by ESs with math expertise set up as contract courses.
D. "That the adminstration provides additional professional growth development training for educational specialists and parents."
1. Stipended curriculum/methodology training for ES.
2. Parent training is being
addressed through the existing monthly training.
5."How can we blend the more traditional WASC approach to our Culture?"
1.Give success stories/testimonials to the WASC team.
2. Demonstrate students'
prior school experience through use of the school survey information, such
as number
of students transferring from continuation schools or drop-out status.
3.
Demonstrate CWCS is meeting the needs of families/students which are not being
met by "traditional" schools.
