To add to this report:
Theresa Matranga offered to help do the writing this summer. Glenna Miller
offered to help as needed with that.
Please do not feel that any of this is criticism. These are only meant to be
helpful suggestions. We understand this is our first attempt at evaluation
our students' writing
1 - As Jennifer mentioned, the rubric did not seem to fit some of the writing
samples - especially in the younger grades. We also thought that we may want
to be more specific and ask that ESs look at sample of essays. We may want to
think about possible ways to be more specific in gathering and evaluating
student work. One idea is for each focus group pick certain grade levels and
students to follow their progress thoughout the year.
Overall, our students moslty appear to be working at grade level yet many of
the samples were below grade level.
2 - I do not think we had any problems with the accreditation process. The
ESs very much appreciated the work behind the scenes of those who wrote up
surveys and helped to gather information for our data.
3 - The group asked if the Leadership committee could provide examples of how
to write up the chapter (which you have provided to me now).
Nancy

Nancy asked if anyone from our group was interested in writing a summary of
chapter 1 for the WASC report. Theresa volunteered to do this with Glenna as
a
back-up if needed.

It was noted that Theresa will need to have criteria questions and a sample
of
what needs to be written in order to do this over the summer.

The group looked at writing samples from various grade levels and evaluated
them according to the rubric given.

Feedback from our group:

Most samples were not appropriate for the rubric we were given. The group
felt
that we needed to have essays in order use this rubric.

The rubric was not appropriate for the lower grade levels (K-1) and did not
apply.

There you go :)
