Bay Area
Notes for Accreditation Meeting March, 2004
At our second focus group meeting, we began by reviewing the guidelines for
expected schoolwide learning results in order to use them as a point of reference.
We then looked at the assessment scores we had printed out and noticed immediately
that many of our students were falling below basic and far below basic on writing
skills. There were other academic areas where this was true, but we thought
that the writing skills and reading skills generally probably have a ripple
effect on scores in other areas.
We thought it would be interesting and worthwhile to see the statewide and
district results in these same areas. We would like access to these scores
if possible in order to do a comparison and see whether these patterns
are only holding true for our students, or if what we are seeing is a reflection
of what is also going on in the student population outside of our particular
school.
We all agreed that we would like to focus on Language Arts, and in particular
on writing both in this area and across the curriculum.
