Student Council Constitution
The
following articles are the Constitution under which the Connecting Waters
Charter School Student Council operates as an official organization of
Article One (Purpose):
1.1 Connecting Waters Charter School Student Council is the official name of this organization.
1.2 Student Council is meant to provide a platform for students to have their voice heard while supplementing their educational experience.
1.3 Meetings
will be held the first Monday of the month from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM during
the school year at the
1.4 Meetings will be held according to Robert’s rules of order.
Article Two (Membership):
2.1 To become a member of CWCS’s Student Council, students must attend CWCS, and must be recommended by the student’s Education Specialist.
2.2 Officers and members of the Student Council will be removed at the discretion of their Educational Specialist if their academic performance is not meeting the conditions set forth in their student agreement and handbook.
2.3 The consequences for misconduct will be administered only by the Student Council Advisor and Executive Director of CWCS. Consequences may include: warning, community service, a suggested punishment by the Student Council Advisor and Executive Director. Officers may also be removed from office if the administration, staff advisor or Educational Specialist deems necessary.
2.4 Students on academic probation will be allowed to attend and vote during meetings only if the Student Council Advisor and the student’s Education Specialist believe it is not detrimental to their academics.
Article Three (Officers):
3.1 The following is the list of offices for CWCW Student Council:
3.1.1 President
3.1.2 Vice President
3.1.3 Secretary
3.1.4 Treasurer
3.1.5 Activities Coordinator
3.1.6 Fundraising Coordinator
3.1.7 Publicity Coordinator
3.1.8 Members
3.2 All students interested in holding an office will fill out petitions and participate in an interview process. The interviews will be conducted by a panel comprised of the Student Council Advisor, the Executive Director, and a representative from the Parent Council. Student will be placed in positions best suited for them by the board.
3.3 Elections will be run and facilitated by the Student Council Advisor.
3.4 The term of office for Student Council members will be one school year.
3.5 The CWCW Student Council offices and respective duties include:
3.5.1 President:
3.5.1.1 Lead Student Council meetings
3.5.1.2 Review Parent Council Minutes and act as a liaison to the Parent Council
3.5.1.3 Assist groups and committees
3.5.1.4 The President or designee shall attend all Student Council sponsored functions.
3.5.2 Vice President
3.5.2.1 Take over duties of president during President’s absence
3.5.2.2 Assist with event coordination
3.5.3 Secretary
3.5.3.1 Record any information from meetings (including, but not limited to minutes)
3.5.3.2 Send the Student Council meeting minutes to the Student Council advisor via email by Wednesday after the Student Council meeting.
3.5.4 Treasurer:
3.5.4.1 Report on financial standing of CWCS Student Council
3.5.4.2 Email on a monthly basis with the school office or the person in charge of managing the CWCS books.
3.5.4.3 Assist the fundraising coordinator.
3.5.5 Activities Coordinator:
3.5.5.1 Oversee various activities committees
3.5.5.3 Report on progress or matters which need a vote.
3.5.6 Fundraising Coordinator:
3.5.6.1 Organize and promote CWCS fundraisers
3.5.9 Publicity Coordinator
3.5.9.1 Create and assist with the creation of advertisement and promotional mediums, including (but not limited to): Parent and Student Listserve announcements, posters, flyers, and anything else deemed necessary by the ASB Advisor
3.5.9.2 Coordinate advertising and promotional efforts with the List serve moderator and Student Council Advisor.
3.5.10 Members
3.5.10.1 Assist and actively participate in Student Council activities.
Article Four (Advisor):
4.1 One teacher advisor will be appointed for each school year by the CWCS Executive Director.
Article Five (Budget):
5.1 ASB’s annual budget is managed by the CWCS Waterford Office. All bookkeeping, revenues, and expenditures will be handled through this office.
5.2 The treasurer will be responsible for obtaining a report by emailing the school secretary on the CWCS Student Council’s funds each meeting.
Article Six (Constitutional Amendments):
6.1 Amendments to the Constitution can be formulated after a formal officer proposal and approved by two-thirds vote of CWCW Student Council.
