Parent Council Meeting

Tuesday, March 11, 2003

 

ADOPTED MINUTES

 

1. Call to Order

     The meeting was called to order at 6:43 pm, 219 N. Reinway Ave., Waterford, CA.

2. Approval of Agenda

     There was a motion to approve the agenda and a second. Vote-All Yes

3. Roll Call

     There were eight parent council members present.

4. Hearing of the Public

     None

5. Information Items

  

 A. Accreditation Report

            The CWCS director stated that this report was included in her directors report and would be given at that time.

 

B. Curriculum Report

            A report form theDirector of Education Services was read. Topics covered were parent support, guidance and curriculum. One of the parent council members stated that she could not find the school forms on our web site. It was stated that the web site is under construction and the forms should be added by the beginning of April. The new PMCT (Parent Monthly Curriculum Training) meeting was described and the council was told the first PMCT meeting would be held Tuesday, March 18th, at the Manteca Learning Center located at 955 W. Center St. Ste. 9, Manteca.

 

 C.  Attendance Report

            One parent council member asked why we have so many San Joaquin county students compared to Stanislaus students. The CWCS director stated that many of them were previously enrolled in Heritage Family Academy. Another possible explanation is that San Joaquin County has fewer charter schools compared to Stanislaus County.

  

  D. Learning Center Report

             A list of contract classes for the spring and fall semesters for both learning centers as well as off site classes was given to each council member present. Many council members were surprised at how many classes had been offered throughout the year.

 

    E. Graduation Report

            The CWCS director read the senior high graduation report. She informed the council that an eighth grade graduation was now being planned.

 

   F. Fund Raiser Report

            The fundraiser report was read and the council members were encouraged to participate in our fundraisers. One of the parent council members stated that we could still have the Pampered Chef fundraiser. It was stated that we made $43.73 from the Me-N-Eds Pizza fundraiser.

 

   G. PCN Report

            The Executive Director of IEM, gave this report. He stated that IEM canceled its contract with PCN due to the fact the PCN was not fulfilling its contract. IEM is now responsible for all the back office services for CWCS. He stated that this would result in lower fees. One of the parent council members wanted to know if PCN had been paid for the first semester. The Executive Director of IEM explained that PCN was paid by CWCS for the first semester based on 100% funding.

 

    H.  Director’s Report

            The CWCS director read the director report.  An accreditation update by the director was read at this time. She read that we had our initial WASC visit. She stated that the meeting went very well. We should find out WASC’s recommendation by the summer. One of the parent council members wanted to know why we had a need to become accredited. The CWCS director stated that it was helpful for high school students when they apply for state grants and for college acceptance. Another parent council member asked if we still had a good relationship with the district. The CWCS director stated that WASC was very impressed with our positive working relationship with WUSD. She also stated that our financial reports have been more acceptable to the WUSD business manager now that IEM is doing them.

    The meeting was adjourned at 7:40pm.
