Parent Council Meeting

Tuesday, September 9, 2003

 

ADOPTED MINUTES

 

1. Call to Order

    The meeting was called to order at 6:33 pm, 219 N. Reinway Ave., Waterford, CA.

2. Approval of Agenda

     It was motioned to approve the agenda. It was seconded. There was a unanimous vote  

     to approve the agenda.

3. Roll Call

     There were 17 parent council members present.     

     There were 12 absent parent council members.

5. Consent Calendar

    Approval of Minutes

    1. Unapproved Minutes of 06/10/03 were reviewed and approved. It was motioned to approve the 06/10/03 minutes. It was seconded. There was a unanimous vote to approve the 06/10/03 minutes.

 

6. Hearing of the Public

    One council member said it would be nice if we could add a product search option to our online vendors list.

    Another council member stated that it would be nice to have more school sponsored classes for junior high and high school students to help stretch student funding especially during second semester. The CWCS Director asked her to let her know specifically what classes she would like to see.

     A council member stated that there needed to be more consistency with the awarding of high school credits to elementary and Jr. High students. An IEM representative stated that there was going to be a half day high school training meeting for ESs next week.  Various council members would like to see informational meetings regarding high school and also parent training classes. The CWCS Director stated that a high school information meeting was conducted at the Back to School Night. She asked council members to give her dates and times that they would like to have another high school information meeting.

 

7. Information Items

 A. Attendance Report

      The Attendance Report was reviewed. The CWCS Director stated that it was interesting to see how our enrollment has changed from last years September enrollment. It was stated that there is a cap of 1200 ADA for this school year. This cap does not include adult students.

 B. ES Support Division Report

      The ES Support Division Report was reviewed.

 C. Education Services Division Report

     The ES Services Division Report was reviewed.

 D. Treasurers Report

      The Treasurers Report was reviewed. It was stated that we still have God Father Pizza coupons to sell.

 E. Group Education Report

      The Group Education Report was reviewed. A Parent Council Member stated that it would be nice to have a charter bus for a couple of our group activities. The CWCS Director said that she would check on it as an option.

 F. Learning Center / Co-ops Report

     The Learning Center / Co-ops Report was reviewed. The CWCS Director stated that we now have a Co-op in Riverbank. The Riverbank Co-op has forty students. They are using a rented building in Riverbank. They have one credentialed teacher and several aides.

      It was mentioned that it would be nice to have a Stockton area learning center, but a IEM representitive said that at this time there has not been any ES showing interest in heading up this project.

G. Bulletin Board

      The Bulletin Board Report was reviewed.

 

 8. Director’s Report

      The CWCS Director summarized the director report.  The CWCS Director stated the parent council members could help with the accreditation process by being part of a self study team.

 

 11. Council Comments

       An IEM representative told the parent council that he and the CWCS Director were working together on the request for full funding with the Advisory Commission on Charter Schools. According to the rules of SB740 we have met the bright lines for 100% funding. An IEM representative stated that we would be requesting multi-year funding.

       The IEM representative also stated that we would find out by the end of next week whether we were approved for the Implementation Grant we re-applied for in June. There were seventy applicants and there are only four grants available. If we get the grant it will be used for ES training, parent training, computer labs, curriculum fair and other items.

    The meeting was adjourned at 7:56 pm.
