FIRST GRADE:

organizer. One for summary writing and one for
narrative writing.

SECOND GRADE:

Learn controlled vowel
patterns of /r/ , inflections ed, es, s.
Learn about 2 syllables

300 words in 2nd grade
Learn/continue to learn to
use a graphic organizer. Writing summaries and

FIFTH GRADE:
Learn more about syllables,
vowel patterns, etc.
Learn to use adverbs and
adjectives.

suffixes.
Learn how to use commas in
writing.

900 words in 5th grade
Learn to use a graphic
organizer to write Persuasive Essay and Expository Essay.
Continue to use graphic
organizer to write summaries, narratives, and response to literature.

SIXTH GRADE:
Learn more syllables, vowel
patterns, prefixes, suffixes.
Learn Greek and Latin Roots.
Learn complex and compound
sentences.
Learn commas, colons,
quotations, etc to add to writing.
Learn metaphors, antonyms,
synonyms, figurative language.
Learn High Frequency Words
1500 in 6th grade
Learn to use a graphic
organizer to write a Research Paper.
Learn aspects of a research
paper and all components.
SEVENTH THROUGH TWELVETH
GRADE:
Continue to review all of
the above.
Learn to use graphic
organizer to write biographies, autobiographies, short stories and narratives.
Continue to write response
to literature, research reports, persuasive compositions, documents related to
career development and technical documents.
Learn to use parallelism,
grammatical forms subordination, coordination, apposition and devices to
indicate clearly the relationship between items.
